How to Add Lyrics in BlackPlayer Music Player

BlackPlayer is easily one of the most versatile music players for Android. Not only does it support a variety of audio formats, but it’s also fully configurable. And the icing on the cake is the sleek black interface that’s nice to look at and simple to use.

The problem arises when you try to search for song lyrics, you’ll find that the option is conveniently missing. Pity.

For someone like me, looking up the lyrics to a song is as important as listening to it. First off, I’ve been known to sing sloppy lyrics. And two, how would I perfect my bathroom chant without them?

So the lack of inline lyrics in BlackPlayer was a bit problematic for me. Yes, there are apps like Musixmatch that have features like floating window. However, its lack of offline support was another reason I was looking for ways to add lyrics to the BlackPlayer.

Luckily, I discovered that there are two simple solutions to fix this problem. The first method uses Google search while the second is to add .LRC files. Here’s how to add lyrics in the BlackPlayer.

1. Search and Download Manually

Step 1: The first step would be to make sure that the song title and associated tags are correct. To do this, long-press the album name at the top of the screen and tap Edit.

Enter the exact name of the artist, song and year if required.

2nd step: Once done, tap on the notepad icon in the upper right corner and long press on the screen to open the Lyrics window.

Press the Search Lyrics button to enter the Google homepage. Depending on the popularity of the song, either the lyrics will be displayed immediately or you will have to select one of the lyrics pages.

Step 3: Once you’ve copied the relevant bits, hit the back button which will take you back to the BlackPlayer interface. Tap Paste > OK.

To view lyrics, tap the notepad icon. The only problem with this method is that it does not support synchronized lyrics scrolling. You’ll have to manually scroll (and simultaneously sing out loud, perhaps) to access new stanzas.

The good news? This disadvantage does not exist in the second method. Although this is a foolproof method, it does require a bit of setup. And if you’re the do-it-yourself type, you’d like this way of adding lyrics.

2. Via LRC files

LRC files (LyRiCs) are similar to SRT files or subtitle files used for movies or videos. Not only do they have the lyrics of the song but also the timestamp, making it easy to sync between audio and text.

Step 1: There are many LRC file generators. So all you have to do is search for one and download it. I usually use the Rentanadviser site to find one, and you too can explore the lot and choose your favorite.

Once the LRC file is downloaded, rename it. Make sure it has the same name as the track.

2nd step: Transfer the file to the same folder on your phone that contains the song. Now open BlackPlayer and long press the notepad icon and select Show Lyrics. That’s it.

This method can get a bit cumbersome if you have hundreds of songs on your phone. But as I mentioned above, if you like to tinker on your phone and have free time, this is the best method.

Now, what if you have the album art as the background image while you read the lyrics?

Bonus Tip: Refreshing the Album Art

Did you know that BlackPlayer allows you to recover album art? Time and time again, certain songs are accompanied by low-res art, and in certain situations completely different. It can be a huge disappointment.

So, if you want to refresh the album cover, all you have to do is open the song in the player and long-press the notepad-shaped icon in the upper right corner.

Now select the “Automatically download new cover” option and the new cover will be downloaded in an instant (depending on your internet connection speed). Again, the track tags need to be perfect for this trick to work.

Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Metadata > Album and choose to download covers for all songs that have missing covers.

Listen, sing and groove

This is how you can add lyrics to a song on BlackPlayer. Both methods work great depending on how comfortable you are with them. However, if you live in an area without a 24-hour Internet connection or if you disconnect from the network quite frequently, the second method would be more appropriate.
